Stockton Stymies Condors, 5-1

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder (14-15-2-1, 31 points) opened up a 4-0 lead and cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (19-9-2-0, 40 points), at Stockton Arena Tuesday night. The loss stopped the Condors three-game road winning streak.

Stockton touched up Condors G Timo Pielmeier for a pair in the first frame. They took a 1-0 lead when LW Judd Blackwater scored on a wrist shot from the circle at 7:54 of the first period. The Thunder went up 2-0 on a C Chris D'Alvise wrap-around, 9:37 into the opening frame. Stockton took a 11-4 shot lead into the first intermission.

The Thunder extended their lead in the middle frame. D Anthony Aiello had his wrist shot tip off G Timo Pielmeier's glove and just over the goal line with 8:56 remaining in the second period. The Condors put on pressure in the final minutes on the power play, but could not solve the ECHL's reigning Goalie of the Week, Bryan Pitton.

RW Brett Hemingway scored at 2:20 of the third period to make it 4-0. Bakersfield finally bested Pitton when F Stephane Goulet converted a perfect feed from RW Ryan Menei on the power play at 6:10 of the final period, but the Condors would not strike again. RW J.F. Caudron capped off the scoring with 2:06 remaining to produce the 5-1 final score.

NOTES FROM THE NEST: The Condors were without D John de Gray tonight, as he was reassigned this morning to Rochester (AHL) by Anaheim... Bakersfield finishes the 2009 calendar year with a record of 41-25-3-3 in 72 games... Despite the loss, Bakersfield is 13-5-2 in 20 all-time games at Stockton Arena (.700), their best record of any opponent's buildings they have ever played more than two games in...
