Elmira Jackals News Release

Behind four second-period goals, two goals apiece from Tyler Donati and Yannick Tifu, and 34 saves by Chris Holt, the Elmira Jackals dominated the Reading Royals at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa., winning 7-1 and moving to within seven points of first place in the American East Division.

With the teams scoreless through much of the first period, Olivier Proulx won a faceoff for Mat Robinson, whose wrist shot from the blue line snuck over the right shoulder of Reading goaltender Matt Dalton to give the Jackals the 1-0 lead at 14:31 of the first period.

After Nick St. Pierre tied the game early in the second period, Yannick Tifu redirected a Guillaume Lepine blue-line shot to give the Jackals the lead for good at 3:42 of the second period. This began a second-period flurry for the Jackals.

Minutes after Tifu's go-ahead goal, Justin Donati found Keegan Dansereau in front who one-timed it past Dalton to make it 3-1 at 7:06 of the second. Wes Cunningham also received an assist on the goal. Tyler Donati fired a puck from the left circle into the back of the net to give the Jackals a 4-1 advantage at 10:47 of the second period, and Brendan Connolly closed out the four-goal third period with a one-timer on a feed from Mike Sgroi at 15:26.

In the third period, Tifu one-timed a puck from the left circle on a feed from Proulx to make it 6-1 at 12:23 and Tyler Donati cleaned up a rebound on a Maxime Gratchev shot for the 7-1 lead at 18:06. Holt's 34 saves helped him improve his record to 7-4-0-1 on the season, while Dalton let in seven of the Jackals' 37 shots, falling to 9-6-0-1 in 2009-2010.

Elmira moved to within seven points of Reading for the top spot in the American East Division, improving to 14-13-2-2, while the Royals record dropped to 18-11-1-2.

For the second straight game against the Royals, the Jackals had a period in which they scored four goals. Elmira scored four goals in the third period of a 6-3 win on Saturday night over Reading at First Arena.

The Jackals are up to 10 regulation wins on the season, and the Jackals offense has showed up for each of those victories. The Jackals have scored at least four goals in all of their regulation wins and average 5.9 goals per game in those victories.

Elmira's next game is Thursday at the Johnstown Chiefs, as the Jackals look to make it four wins in five games. The Jackals return home to First Arena on Friday, as the team tries to make it a league-leading ninth sellout when they host the Trenton Devils at 7:35 p.m.
