Matt Marquardt Assigned To Reading

Reading Royals News Release


Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Matt Marquardt ["MAR kwart"] has been assigned to the Royals from the Providence Bruins of the AHL. In a separate transaction also announced today, forward Charlie Kronschnabel has been loaned by the Royals to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.

Marquardt (6'3/229) (22), a second year pro from North Bay, Ontario, has registered seven assists and nineteen penalty minutes with Providence this season. Last year with the Bruins, Marquardt scored nine goals and picked up thirteen assists (twenty-two points) and forty-five penalty minutes in seventy-one games. Marquardt, a seventh round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2006, led the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in goals (41) and points (70) in sixty-seven games during the 2006-07 season. The year before, Marquardt was a member of the Wildcats' team that won the QMJHL championship and made it all the way to the finals of the Memorial Cup before being knocked off by the Quebec Remparts. For Kronschnabel, this marks his first call up to the AHL this season. In thirty-one games with Reading this year, Kronschnabel has registered thirteen points (7g-6a) and twenty-five penalty minutes.

The Royals return to the Sovereign Center on tonight (Tuesday, December 29, 2009 @ 7:05 pm) when the Elmira Jackals visit Reading. Tonight, a Royals' fan will win a trip to the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Reading's game night broadcast on Tuesday on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off at 6:35 pm.
