South Carolina Stingrays News Release
The Week That Was...
The South Carolina Stingrays visited their in-state rivals, the Greenville Road Warriors, Friday night and hosted them at the North Charleston Coliseum for Opening Night Saturday evening for a week record of 2-0-0-0.
On Friday, the Stingrays trailed 1-0 moving into the last minute of regulation before forward Scott Campbell scored the game-tying goal with 30 seconds to play and the game-winning tally with 4.9 seconds on the clock for a 2-1 victory. Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis recorded his second win of the season making 24 saves.
The Stingrays celebrated Opening Night Saturday with the Stingrays Alumni taking the ice in the afternoon and the Stingrays and Road Warriors battling later that night. In the Alumni Game, Team Bavis rallied from a six-goal deficit to tie Team Zucker 9-9. Stingrays Hall of Famer and NHL legend Rick Vaive made his first appearance in the Coliseum in over a decade. That night, forward Chad Painchaud scored two power-play goals and forwards Marc Hagel and Campbell added markers in a 4-1 triumph in front of 5,070.
