Brossoit Reassigned to Alaska, Ortio Recalled to Abbotsford

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, announced that goaltender Laurent Brossoit has been reassigned to the Aces from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League and goatlender Joni Ortio has been recalled to Abbotsford.

The Heat are the AHL affiliate of the Aces and Flames.

Brossoit, 20, is 0-1-0 in two games with Abbotsford this season and spent the preseason with the Aces. He appeared in one preseason game with Alaska, making 22 saves on Oct. 8 vs. Cincinnati.

He suited up for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League from 2008-13 and went 88-34-9 in 147 career games along with ten shutouts, a .909 save percentage and 2.59 goals against average.

Brossoit was named to the WHL Eastern Conference All-Star Team (second) last season when he finished the regular season among the league leaders in multiple categories. He ranked third in goals against average (2.25), sixth in save percentage (.917), and seventh in wins (33) and shutouts (5).

The 6-foot-2, 192-pound goaltender helped guide Edmonton to a berth in the Memorial Cup and was named Most Valuable Player for the WHL postseason in 2011-12. He was selected by the Flames in the sixth round (164th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Ortio, 22, is 3-1-0 in four games with the Aces, collecting two shutouts, a .944 save percentage and 1.01 goals against average.

Alaska returns to play Friday at home, hosting the Bakersfield Condors at 7:15 p.m. (GCI Channel 1/KFQD) from Sullivan Arena.
