
Stingrays Topple Road Warriors 3-2 on Kid's Day

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (11-2-1-2) defeated the Greenville Road Warriors (7-8-1-1) 3-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Scooter Vaughan netted a goal and an assist for the Stingrays.
Road Warriors forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand kicked off the scoring 1:19 into the second period knocking in a rebound past the left pad of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (W, 14 saves on 16 shots) from between the faceoff circles. The Stingrays responded on the power play at 9:56 with defenseman Jeremy Price's first professional goal. Vaughan and forward Chad Painchaud picked up the assists. Vaughan put the Stingrays up 2-1 unassisted at 13:22 stepping out of the penalty box and capitalizing on a breakaway beating Greenville's Jeff Malcolm (L, 20 saves on 23 shots) under the blocker. Less than a minute later, Road Warriors forward J.M. Rizk buried his second goal of the season to even the contest at 14:02.
After missing the last five games due to injury, Stingrays forward Jack Downing buried the game-winning tally at 2:53 of the third period with help from Painchaud and defenseman Derrick Pallis. The Stingrays finished the contest 2-for-5 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-5.
The Stingrays kick off a six-game road trip Wednesday, November 27 against the Toledo Walleye at 7:15 p.m. at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio and return to the Coliseum on Saturday, December 14 to take on the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. on College Night and Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Debi's Kids.
The Stingrays will we wear special Clemson University jerseys and auction them LIVE after the contest. Clemson alum and two-time Super Bowl Champion Jim Stuckey will drop the ceremonial first puck along with Charleston native and "Survivor: One World" finalist Chelsea Meissner.
