Road Warriors' Point Streak Halted in North Charleston

North Charleston, SC: The Road Warriors five game point streak came to an end on Sunday evening with a 3-2 loss against the South Carolina Stingrays.

The first period was defensive battle. Collectively only 12 shots were put on net, South Carolina obtaining eight of those. Sam Noreau and Anthony Collins got into a fight just 5:42 into the game. Both players met along the Greenville bench and exchanged shoves which led to the fight. South Carolina had two power play opportunities but did not score or create constant pressure.

Just a minute and 19 seconds into the second period, Marc-Olivier Vallerand broke the scoreless tie with a rebound goal for his third of the year. Brandon Hynes created the play with a low shot that bounced off Jeff Jakaitis' leg pad. Bretton Stamler was also credited with the assist. Halfway through the period, South Carolina's power play converted on an opportunity to tie the game at one. Jeremy Price fired a shot from the point for his first professional goal. Scooter Vaughan and Chad Painchaud tallied the assists. Vaughan would then bring South Carolina ahead by a goal. The defenseman came out of the penalty box and intercepted a pass for a breakaway goal, his second of the year. 40 seconds later, J.M. Rizk responded for his second of the year on a rebound goal. Sean Berkstresser and Hynes were credited with the assists and the game entered the third tied at two.

South Carolina took the lead once again with a goal 2:53 into the final frame. Jack Downing was alone in the slot for his second of the year. Painchaud and Derrick Pallis had the assists on the eventual game winner. Greenville had three power play opportunities in the third, including one in the final two minutes. Despite pulling Jeff Malcolm for the extra attacker, the Road Warriors could not tie the game and lost by a score of 3-2. Jakaitis won his league leading ninth game with 14 saves. Malcolm falls to a 3-3-1 record with 20 saves.

The Road Warriors travel to Orlando for a two game series on Tuesday and Thursday night against the Solar Bears. Tuesday's game begins at 7 p.m. To listen, fans can click the listen live link on the Road Warriors homepage or watch via America One.

Bring a stuffed animal to the game to throw on the ice after the Road Warriors score their first goal. The Road Warriors are looking to beat last season's donation of over 2,000 stuffed animals and encourage fans of all ages to come out to the game for some great fun and to help a great cause! All stuffed animals collected will be donated to Toys For Tots. On Saturday, December 14, Road Warriors players, joined by members of the U.S. Marine Corps, will deliver the stuffed animals to Sitton Buick on Laurens Road where they will then be donated to children in need.
