
Stingrays Tie Franchise Mark With 10th Straight Win

Charlotte, NC - The South Carolina Stingrays returned to action after the holiday break in Charlotte taking on the Checkers at the St. Lawrence Homes Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. The Rays had four players called up to Hershey in that time, but were still able to hand it to the Checkers 5-2, making it ten wins in a row, tying their franchise high.
"I'm really proud of these guys," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "They played hard and were able to keep the streak alive. Now we're just looking forward to tomorrow against Gwinnett."
In the first period the Stingrays scored early and often. At 1:05 Matt Scherer got his fourth goal of the season from Pierre-Luc O'Brien. That was followed shortly there after by Trent Campbell's third goal of the season, at 2:54 on the power play. Cambell struck again at 6:21 from Travis Morin and Cail MacLean. They would add a fourth goal in the period when Paul McIlveen got his seventh goal of the year from Scott Romfo, making it 4-0 after one period.
In the second, Chris Chaput got his ninth goal on the year from Morin and Campbell at 13:13 to make it 5-0. That would be the final goal the Rays would score, but Josh Johnson would make sure that they wouldn't need to score any more, as South Carolina won 5-2.
The winning goaltender was Johnson who stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced. South Carolina went 2 for 7 on the power play, while killing off all 8 of the short handed situations they faced.
Prior to the game the Stingrays had four different players called up to the Hershey Bears. Goaltender Davis Parley, defenseman Grant McNeill and forwards Stephen Werner and Steve Pinizzotto made the trip to join the AHL Bears. The Stingrays return to action tomorrow afternoon when they welcome in the Gwinnett Gladiators to the North Charleston Coliseum in hopes of breaking their franchise winning streak record . Game time will be at 4:00 P.M. and you can hear it on REAL 1340.
