South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach Jared Bednar announced today the signing of center Chris Chaput. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Chaput, 23, registered 24 goals and 32 assists for 56 points in 67 games for the Stingrays in 2006-07, his first full season in the ECHL. Chaput's 24 markers placed third on the club, while his 11 power-play tallies tied for second.
"I'm excited to get him back," Bednar said. "He had a great year for us. A couple of months into the season he was arguably our best player and most productive player. We're looking for him to build on the season he had last year and be even better for us this year."
Prior to joining South Carolina, the Providence, RI native spent four years at Providence College, collecting 96 points (33g, 63a) in 144 collegiate games. He led the Friars in scoring during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 campaigns before turning pro with the Trenton Titans following the conclusion of his senior (04-05) season.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound forward played the 2005-06 season with the UHL's Elmira Jackals, leading the club with 66 points (26g, 40a) in 70 contests.
