Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that Garrett Winder has signed on to join the Nailers this season.

Winder, 25, spent last season overseas playing with Heereveen Flyers in the Netherlands and showed his scoring touch translates directly accumulating 23 points (13g, 10a) in 26 games.

"Garrett is someone that will fit nicely into our offense this season," said Nailers Head Coach Glenn Patrick. "He has been able to generate offense wherever he goes and Wheeling should be no different for him."

The 6-foot, 205 pound forward from Ajax, Ontario played at Norwich University with former Nailer and current Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguin Kurtis McLean. Both players were on the NU team that won a Division III National Championship in 2003.

Winder tallied a career total of 104 (46g, 68a) points in 104 games for the Cadets.

The Nailers will open the ECHL's 20th Anniversary season with a game against the Johnstown Chiefs on Oct. 18th. It will be a rematch of Game 7 from the first-ever ECHL Finals. Wheeling will open their home schedule on Oct. 26 against the South Carolina Stingrays.
