South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Cail MacLean scored two goals and Davis Parley made 27 saves to lead the South Carolina Stingrays past the Augusta Lynx 3-1 in front of 3,945 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"It was a good team effort," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "MacLean set the tone with the opening two goals, but Parley was the difference. He played terrific down the stretch to preserve the win. Stephen Werner was injured and it looks like we will lose him for two to three weeks."
South Carolina (13-11-2, 28 points) hit stride at 1:48 of the first period. MacLean sent a backhand shot past goaltender Dave McKee for his ninth goal of the season. Helpers went to rookies Matt Stefanishion and Jamie Fraser, who returned from a two-game stint with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.
MacLean went back to work and deposited his second of the game on the power play at the 18:15 mark of the first to make it 2-0 for South Carolina assisted by Evan Schwabe and Fraser.
Peter Szabo gave the Stingrays a 3-0 lead, scoring his fourth tally of the campaign at 5:21 of the second. Scott Romfo and Stefanishion collected assists.
Augusta (12-16-0, 24 points) got on the scoreboard with the man advantage. Mike Erickson buried a shot past Parley from Jamie Johnson and Nathan Saunders at 8:47.
In the third, Parley made 15 saves to hold off the Lynx pressure and register his 11th victory of the season.
South Carolina converted on 1-of-7 power play opportunities, while Augusta went 1-for-3 on the man advantage. Stingrays outshot the Lynx 41-28.
The Stingrays take to the road for games on Friday and Saturday at 7:35 p.m. against the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida.
