
Stingrays Fight Back, Fall in OT to Road Warriors

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (14-11-1-1) fought back from two two-goal deficits, but fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (15-8-0-1) 4-3 in overtime on Kid's Day at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
Road Warriors forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand grabbed the game's opening goal at 11:21 of the first period tapping a rebound past Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (L, 26 saves on 30 shots) along the right-wing post. Forward Brendan Connolly earned the lone assist. Less than two minutes later, Vallerand potted his 13 goal of the season from forward Connor Shields at 13:20.
The Stingrays cut the lead in half on the power play at 10:11 of the second period when forward Sean Dolan slipped a shot under the pads of Road Warriors goalie Nic Riopel (W, 37 saves on 40 shots). Defensemen Derek Keller and Paul Baier grabbed assists. The Road Warriors responded with a tally from defenseman Francis Meilleur at 11:51 from Vallerand and Connolly.
Stingrays forward Joe Pereira made it 3-2 with his first professional goal at 2:05 of the third period from defenseman Dustin Stevenson. Forward Danick Paquette knotted up the contest with 54 seconds left in regulation forcing a shot under the blocker of Riopel. Baier and forward Trent Campbell registered helpers.
In overtime, Road Warriors defenseman Lee Baldwin buried the game-winning tally unassisted at the 1:47 mark beating Grubauer under the blocker from the bottom of the right-wing circle. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-7 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-4.
The Stingrays return to action Tuesday, December 20 against the Gwinnett Gladiators for Ft. Jackson Holdover Troop Appreciation Night presented by Verizon and 2-for-1 Tickets at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum!
