February 12, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (32-14-4-5) toppled the Florida Everblades (25-18-3-5) 4-3 in nine rounds of the shootout in front of 4,201 at North Charleston Coliseum Friday night. Stingrays forwards Trent Campbell (1g, 2a) and Keith Johnson (1g, 2a) each had three point nights.
The Stingrays netted the only goal of the first period off a wrist shot from defenseman Dylan Yeo at 11:10 beating Everblades goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu over the right shoulder from between the faceoff circles. Campbell and Johnson registered assists on Yeo's 11 tally of the season.
The Everblades tied the game on the power play off a blast from forward Ryan Lang at 3:35 of the second period beating Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly low blocker-side through a screen. Defenseman A.J. Thelen and forward Shea Guthrie earned assists. Stingrays' Johnson made it 2-1 at 15:32 from Campbell to end the second period scoring.
Everblades forward Ross Carlson tied the game at three at 14:10 of the third period from center Dominic Osman and defenseman Benn Olson. Campbell reclaimed the lead for the Stingrays on the power play at 16:57 from Johnson and forward Gregg Johnson, but the Everblades silenced the celebration a little over a minute later with Carlson's second of the night at 17:58 from Osman and Guthrie. The Everblades outshot the Stingrays in overtime 2-1, but neither side could light the lamp. In the first five rounds of the shootout, both teams found the net twice, pushing the contest into sudden death. After Everblades forward Colin Nicholson and Stingrays rookie Jake Hauswirth scored the seventh round, Stingrays forward Spencer Carbery buried a shot underneath the right arm of Beckford-Tseu in the ninth to give the Stingrays the victory. Connelly earned his 11 win of the season stopping 32 of 35 Everblades shots. Beckford-Tseu gets saddled with his sixth loss of the campaign kicking away 19 of 22 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-4 on the power play while Florida finished 1-for-6.
