Florida Everblades News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - It took nine shooters but South Carolina outgunned the Florida Everblades 4-3 in a shootout. Four Stingrays netted tallies in the shootout while the Everblades notched goals from Kevin Baker, Ernie Hartlieb and Colin Nicholson. The victory was the fourth straight by South Carolina over Florida. The two clubs meet again in Charleston tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
In a tight-checking first period, the Stingrays doubled up the Everblades in shots on goal at an 11-6 clip. The Stingrays scored the only goal of the first stanza following an Everblades power-play opportunity. Dylan Yeo found himself in front of the Everblade net by himself and fired the puck in the top left corner of the net at 11:10 to put the Stingrays on top, 1-0. Trent Campbell and leading scorer Keith Johnson picked up the helpers on the tally. The Everblades were unsuccessful on one power play opportunity while South Carolina finished the period scoreless in two tries.
The second period saw the Everblades begin with three straight power play opportunities including a two-man advantage for 1:22. With one second remaining on the two-man advantage the Everblades evened the score at 1-1. Ryan Lang fired in goal number 13 for him this season with help from AJ Thelen and Shea Guthrie. The goal came at the 3:35 mark of the middle frame. South Carolina answered that tally at the 15:32 mark of the second as Keith Johnson took a pass from Trent Campbell and goaltender Shane Connelly to give the Stingrays the lead 2-1.
The Everblades tied the game in the third period with just under five minutes to go in the contest. Ross Carlson registered his team-leading 16th goal of the season banking in a shot off the pad of goaltender Shane Connelly to tie the hockey game. South Carolina would again recapture the lead 2:47 later on a power play tally by Trent Campbell. Keith and Gregg Johnson picked up the assists. Florida would fight back and tie the game again for the third time on another goal by the Captain Ross Carlson a minute later. Carlson picked up a rebound and slid it under goaltender to ultimately force the game to an overtime and shootout.
The Everblades and Stingrays get after it again tomorrow night in North Charleston Coliseum as they meet for the sixth time this season. The Everblades finish the week in Gwinnett on Sunday afternoon against the Gladiators, their fifth game in six days.
All the action can be found on FOX Sports Radio, 1200/1460AM beginning at a 6:35 with the Shoeless Joe's Sports Café pregame show. Everblades hockey is brought to you by Blu Sushi.
