Royals And Jackals To Honor New York State Correctional Officers
February 12, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals and Elmira Jackals today announced that they are teaming up to honor New York State Correctional Officers during the two game East Division showdown set at First Arena in Elmira, New York, on Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20, 2010. To spice things up-as if the Royals - Jackals rivalry needs that-Reading will don black and white striped classic 'prison garb' while the Jackals will play the role of New York State Correctional Officers.. In addition, the ECHL has granted special permission for the referees to wear 'judges robes'-although there is no word yet on whether they will have (or be authorized to use) gavels. The special jerseys will be auctioned after Saturday night's game with a portion of the proceeds going District 6 Little League Challenger Baseball.
"Although based on past history I'm not absolutely convinced they have the right team in the prison uniforms, we're happy to join with the Jackals in this effort to raise funds for the kids at District 6 Little League Challenger Baseball," said Royals General Manager Gordon Kaye. "The Royals Road Warriors are traveling to Elmira for Saturday's game so we hope that we get a bit more of an 'impartial jury' that night than we ordinarily experience at First Arena. We're hopeful that our fans will participate in the post-game jersey auction to help out a great cause."
There are still a couple of open spots for the Road Warriors Expedition to Elmira on Saturday, February, 20, 2010. To get more information on how to become a Royals' Road Warrior, call the Royals' office (610-898-7825) or log onto the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com.
The Royals hit the ice again tonight (Friday, February 12, 2010 @ 7:00 pm) when the team travels to the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, New Jersey to take on the Trenton Devils. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show at 6:30 pm.
