Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- 3,391 fans packed their way into WesBanco Arena on Saturday night, and watched Mickael Bedard stake the Wheeling Nailers to a 1-0 lead at the end of two periods of play. Unfortunately, the South Carolina Stingrays prevailed in the third, scoring three times, erasing the deficit for a 3-1 victory.

After a scoreless first period, the Nailers wasted little time in opening the scoring at the 30-second mark of the middle frame. Mickael Bedard took the puck in behind the South Carolina net, before sending it toward the slot. On its way, the puck bounced off of goaltender Philipp Grubauer, trickling in over the line for a 1-0 Wheeling lead. Zack Torquato and Christiaan Minella picked up the assists on Bedard's eighth tally of the season.

Early in the third period, the Stingrays tied the game. Danick Paquette took a shot from the right point that got deflected in front to Chris Doyle, who was able to sneak a shot through Peter Delmas. Less than three minutes later, South Carolina took the lead, as Pierre-Luc O'Brien forced a turnover in behind the net, and ultimately cashed in on a feed from Maxime Lacroix. Trent Campbell banked in a shot on the right side of the crease with 7:12 left in the third period, giving the Stingrays an insurance goal in their 3-1 victory.

Philipp Grubauer earned the win in goal for South Carolina, stopping 28 of the 29 shots he faced. Peter Delmas suffered the loss for Wheeling, making 23 saves on 26 shots.

The Nailers will be home at WesBanco Arena again on Sunday, when they play host to the Greenville Road Warriors at 2:00.
