Alaska Holds off Utah 3-1

Gerald Coleman turned aside 20 of 21 shots in his return to the lineup to lead the Alaska Aces to their fifth straight win in 3-1 victory over the Utah Grizzlies on Friday night from Sullivan Arena. The Aces lifted their home winning streak to a season-high six game, and their point streak to nine games. Alaska upped their league best record to 25-5-5. The Aces and Grizzlies finish their three-game set on Saturday night. Tickets are on sale now. The Aces got the only goal in a defensive-minded first period when Brandon Gentile snuck a shot from the blue line through traffic past Shane Owen at 13:16. The Aces outshot the Grizzlies 8-4 in the period.

Alaska added a pair of goals to their advantage in the second period. Jacques Lamoureux scored in his return off of the IR at 8:35 on a turnaround shot from the slot, making it 2-0 Aces. Less than two minutes later at 10:21, Tyler Ruegsegger scored on a wrist shot from the left circle. The Aces took a 3-0 lead into the final frame after outshooting the Grizzlies 11-6 in the period.

Utah snapped Coleman's shutout bid in the third period when Paul McIlveen scored from the slot at 11:43. However, the Aces kept them at bay, killing a late Utah power play and holding on for the 3-1 win.

Gerald Coleman (16-4-2) earned the win, making 20 saves on 21 shots, and Shane Owen (5-6-2) made 26 saves on 29 shots, taking the loss. The Aces power play went 0-3, while the Grizzlies went 0-1. Alaska outshot Utah 29-21 in the game.
