January 7, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals extended their winning streak to eight games, their longest ever in an ECHL season, defeating the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night at First Arena, 4-1.
Dustin Gazley, who had a career-high three assists and four points, drove a puck in off the stick off Cyclones goaltender Brad Fogal from the high slot, giving the Jackals a 1-0 lead at 7:34.
Chris Cahill wristed a puck past Jackals netminder Timo Pielmeier from the high slot, evening the score, 1-1, at 17:37.
Louie Caporusso snapped a puck in from the top of the slot at 15:03 of the second off a feed from Gazley, giving the Jackals a 2-1 lead entering the third period. Caporusso's ninth of the season would prove to be his team-leading third game-winning goal.
Matt Campanale provided the Jackals with insurance, burying a shot from the slot at 9:59 of the third period for a power-play strike, extending Elmira's lead to 3-1.
Mike Radja's one-timer off a set up by Campanale from the right circle sailed past Fogal's glove and into the net at 12:40, capping the scoring and giving the Jackals a 4-1 advantage.
Pielmeier was nearly perfect in net, making 23 saves and improving to 7-5-0-0. Fogal dropped to 1-2-0-0 with a 19-save outing.
Elmira has not lost since Dec. 16, and its eight-game winning streak is the team's longest in a single season since joining the ECHL. The Jackals won 10-consecutive contests from the end of the 2008-2009 regular season through the start of the 2009-2010 campaign. The eight-game winning streak is the longest by any team in the ECHL in 2011-2012. The longest winning streak in Jackals history is 12 games, accomplished in 2001-2001 in the UHL.
The Jackals take on the Cyclones again on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. To reserve your seats to see Elmira bid for a ninth-straight victory call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
