December 9, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC: South Carolina slid past the Road Warriors by a score of 2-1 with the difference maker coming off a bad hop off the glass that caught Road Warriors netminder Nathan Lieuwen out of the net.
South Carolina opened the scoring just 11 seconds into the game Tyler McNeely took possession of the puck in the corner and fed Hunter Bishop on the backdoor for his 11th goal of the season. Greenville would battle back and eventually tie the game with two minutes left. Andrew Yogan scored a backhand goal beating Ryan Zapolski on the far side of the net. Steven Delisle and goaltender Lieuwen each got assists on the goal. The assist was Lieuwen's first in his professional career.
The second period was a balanced 20 minutes but South Carolina outshot the Road Warriors 9-6. The lone goal on the period was scored on a bad hop off the glass that caught Lieuwen out of the net. Scooter Vaughan shot the puck into the Road Warriors zone that bounced off the glass and hit Lieuwen on the leg. Lieuwen came out to stop the puck for his defense, instead Kevin Baker found the puck in the crease to slide it in for his fifth of the season. McNeely collected his second assist of the game on the goal.
Greenville would attempt to tie the game during the course of the third period but was not successful. South Carolina gave the Road Warriors the man advantage twice during the period but Zapolski was able to stop the Road Warriors attempt to get even. Zapolski, the first star, stopped 28 of 29 shots to record his tenth win this year. Lieuwen, the game's third start, was the losing netminder with 27 saves. McNeely was awarded the game's second star with two assists.
The Road Warriors will look for revenge as they travel to South Carolina on Tuesday night for a 7:05 faceoff. Greenville will come back home on Thursday night as they host the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7 p.m. The game will feature "Guys Night Out" with $2 BEERS, HOT DOGS, PRETZELS, AND FOUNTAIN DRINKS! FORMER PGA GOLFER JAY HAAS WILL SIGN AUTOGRAPHS IN THE CONCOURSE FROM 6-6:45 P.M.! Tickets are available at the BI-LO Center Box Office or online at ticketmaster.com!
