Bulls Fall Short in 3-1 Loss to the Eagles

SAN FRANCISCO Calif. - The Colorado Eagles (10-10-1-2) defeated the San Francisco Bulls (9-14-1-2) 3-1, Saturday night at the Cow Palace. Peter Sivak scored late in the third period to cut the deficit to one, but Kyle Jones shut the door in goal for the Eagles, stopping 31 shots in the win.

There was no scoring in the first period. The Bulls got into some penalty trouble, but were able to work themselves out of it with some spectacular penalty killing. With Peter Sivak, and Jamie Devane in the penalty box for minor penalties, the Eagles were presented with a full two-minute two-man advantage. Led by goalie Thomas Heemskerk and the trio of Kris Belan, Scott Langdon and Dylan King, the Bulls killed both penalties unscathed. The Bulls out-shot the Eagles 10-6 in the first period.

The Eagles scored the first goal of the game with 9:58 remaining in the second period. Kevin Ulanski scored his second goal of the season with a wrist shot past Heemskerk. Riley Nelson picked up the lone assist.

Colorado doubled their lead in the third period. With 9:12 remaining in the game, Jack Combs scored to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Arthur Bidwill picked up the only assist on Combs' 15th goal of the season. With time winding down, Eagles forward Jake Marto was given a five-minute major, and a game misconduct for slashing. With just under two minutes remaining in the power play, the Bulls drew another penalty, setting up an extended 5-on-3 advantage. The Bulls got on the board with 52 seconds remaining in the game. Sivak scored his ninth goal of the season after a net-mouth scramble in front of Jones to bring the score to 2-1. Sacha Guimond and Dean Ouellet picked up the assists on the goal. The Bulls pulled Heemskerk after the goal, but were unable to tie the game. Combs scored his second goal of the night to make the score 3-1 on an empty net tally. Costello picked up the only assist on the goal.

The Bulls return to action on Thursday, December 13 to take on the Stockton Thunder at the Cow Palace. It is Thirsty Thursday at the Cow Palace. Buy two domestic draft beers and get half off.
