South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals and AHL's Hershey Bears, have announced multiple transactions Thursday afternoon.
Forward Hampus Gustafsson has been re-assigned from the Stingrays to Hershey by the Capitals. The native of Ljungby, Sweden has appeared in 29 ECHL games with SC this season, scoring five goals and seven assists for a total of 12 points. The 24-year-old attacker has also played in 14 games with the Stingrays' AHL affiliate during the 2017-18 year, picking up two assists.
Gustafsson played in 10 games with Hershey at the end of the 2016-17 season after signing with the Capitals and had two assists as well as a +4 rating. Before turning pro, the forward played at Merrimack College in the Hockey East and scored 87 points on 38 goals and 49 assists in 146 games.
Defenseman Paul Geiger has also been recalled by the Bears and will return to the AHL for the second time this season. The Stouffville, Ont. native recently had three assists in the Rays' win over Greenville on Tuesday night and has accumulated 26 points (eight goals, 18 assists) in 45 ECHL contests this season.
Geiger appeared in four contests while in Hershey after his first recall on Oct. 31, posting one assist and five shots on goal. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound blueliner is in his second professional season and spent his rookie campaign with the Rochester Americans during 2016-17, skating in 49 AHL games and compiling nine points (three goals, six assists).
Before the ECHL trade deadline Thursday, South Carolina completed a swap with Orlando, sending forward Robbie Baillargeon to the Solar Bears in exchange for future considerations. The rookie skater suited up for 21 games with the Rays and contributed nine assists along with eight penalty minutes.
South Carolina is home for three games this weekend beginning Friday night against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at 7:05 p.m.
Ticket packages and Groups of 10 or more are on sale now featuring discounted pricing and great benefits. Saturday night is Pink In The Rink Night with SC wearing specialty pink jerseys while the game gets played on pink ice!
