Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO. - Kansas City forward Shawn Pauly netted his second hat trick of the season to help lead the Mavericks to a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday. Eagles forward Michael Joly scored Colorado's lone goal in the contest, his league-leading 39th of the season. Kansas City held the Eagles to a season-low 20 shots on the evening.
Kansas City struck first when Pauly deflected a shot from the top of the circle past Eagles goalie Joe Cannata to give the Mavericks the 1-0 edge just 7:54 into the contest. Less than five minutes later, forward Corey Durocher would snag a loose puck on top of the crease and snap the puck over the right shoulder of Cannata to stretch the Kansas City lead to 2-0 at the 12:36 mark of the first period. The Mavericks would close out the opening 20 minutes of play by outshooting Colorado 14-6.
After a scoreless second period, a turnover at the Mavericks blue line would send Pauly racing down the right wing to then send a wrister into the back of the net, putting Kansas City up 3-0 at the 14:33 mark of the third period.
With only 3:04 remaining in regulation, Joly would win a net-mouth scramble when he bashed a loose puck past Mavericks' goaltender Adam Carlson and into the back of the net to trim Kansas City's advantage to 3-1. Colorado would then pull Cannata in favor of the extra attacker, but Pauly would track down a puck at the red line and fire it into the empty net to complete the hat trick with 1:46 left in the game.
The Eagles went a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill, but were held 0-for-4 on the power play in the contest.
The Eagles return to action when they travel to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to take on the Rapid City Rush on Friday, March 9th at 7:05pm MT.
