Stingrays Agree to Terms with Davison, Pratt, Panowyk

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals, have announced the signing of three players who recently completed their collegiate hockey careers in defensemen Tim Davison and Derek Pratt, as well as forward Mike Panowyk.

All three skaters are expected to join the team in time for games this week against the Idaho Steelheads in North Charleston.

Davison, who played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin in the Big-10, has agreed to a standard professional contract with South Carolina to begin his pro career. The native of De Pere, Wis., collected seven points (one goal, six assists) in 31 games with the Badgers this year during his senior season.

The 5-foot-10, 183-pound defender appeared in 133 total NCAA games with the Badgers over the last four seasons, securing 45 points on nine goals and 36 assists. Before college, the 23-year-old played 62 games in the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the Chicago Steel and had 14 points (six goals, eight assists).

Pratt comes to the Stingrays on an amateur tryout contract from the University of Connecticut where he recently finished his senior season with 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) in 36 games. Serving as team captain for the Huskies in both his junior and senior seasons, the 24-year-old Mount Hermon, Mass. native measures 6-foot-2, 190-pounds.

In four seasons at UConn in the Hockey East, Pratt played in 141 games and posted 21 points on two goals and 19 assists. The defender also played in the USHL before college with the Waterloo Black Hawks during the 2013-14 season where he appeared in 56 games and had seven points (two goals, five assists).

Panowyk also served as a team captain this season with Colgate University in the ECAC, accounting for 18 points on nine goals and nine assists. The 5-foot-10, 187-pound forward did not miss a game in his NCAA career, playing in every one of his team's 152 contests during the last four seasons from 2014-18. He has agreed to a standard professional contract.

A native of Whitby, Ont., Panowyk played two junior seasons with his hometown team, the Whitby Fury in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), from 2012-14 and had 86 points (30 goals, 56 assists) in 94 games. After both his sophomore and junior seasons, he received Colgate's Steve Riggs Memorial Award, given to the player who is more known for gentlemanly play and possesses a high standard of ability.

Davison is wearing No. 6 with the Stingrays, while Pratt will don No. 4 and Panowyk will be No. 42.

South Carolina has also announced the release of forward Tyler Whitney from his amateur try-out agreement as well as defenseman Evan Neugold. Whitney appeared in one game with the Stingrays, while Neugold suited up for three contests and had one assist after being acquired in a trade with the Adirondack Thunder on Mar. 4.

The Rays host Idaho this week on Thursday and Friday at the North Charleston Coliseum. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
