Willmar Stingers News Release

MANKATO, MINN. - The Stingers met the challenge of a second double header away from home in a matter of days to split the pair with the Mankato MoonDogs. . The Stingers were good enough -- withstanding only one inning -- to conceivably win both games.

The first inning of the opening game saw a 2-0 Willmar lead dissipate after just a few moments. After a pair of runners reached base, third baseman Max Kuhn (Kentucky) shot a ball up the line in left to plate a pair with a two-out double.

However, the MoonDogs pounced on the Stingers', scoring six in the home half of the first inning to put Willmar in a hole. The Stingers battled back, scoring the final four runs of the game, but eventually lost, 10-7.

The second game featured the oft-dominate pitching of left-hander Colin Poche. Poche (Arkansas) made his first start of the season, baffling Mankato batters through five innings en route to a 5-0 shout win as he earns the CDI player of the game.

The win was Poche's second on the season and the outing lowered his ERA to 2.16. Poche struck out seven and allowed only three hits and one walk.

Poche received ample support from the offense and good relief from the bullpen. Kuhn was the only Stinger to record a multiple-hit game on the night, accomplishing the feat in both games to finish the evening 4-for-8 with three RBI and two doubles. Nick Halamandaris (California-Berkley) drove in the Stingers' first pair of runs in the victory with a two-RBI single. The pair of steaks give him a total of five on the season and his average has climbed to .229 following his 1-for-3 performance.

Zack Tillery (florida Gulf Coast) and Andrew Crook each threw one inning of scoreless relief in the shutout win. Tillery notched a pair of strikeouts as he continues to excel in relief situations. Crook (Meridian CC) made his team-high eighth appearance as his ERA has dipped to a sterling 2.89.

The Stingers return to Willmar to face the MoonDogs on Friday and Saturday evenings.
