Battle Creek, Mich. - David Stagg (W, 1-2) tossed five shutout innings against the Green Bay Bullfrogs (9-15) to aid in a 4-2 win for the Battle Creek Bombers (12-11) on Friday night.
Stagg Struck out seven and allowed just two hits on the night. The Bombers struck first in the first inning collecting four singles. Matthew Fears had three base hits in the game including an RBI single in the first.
Bruce Bellin (L, 0-2) allowed 11 hits over six innings for Green Bay. Along with Fears, Daniel Cucjen, Tommy Mirabelli, and newcomer Greg Velazquez all drove in a run.
Gabe Berman (S, 5) came in for another easy ninth inning, retiring the final three bullfrogs on seven pitches.
The Bombers are back in action tomorrow against the Bullfrogs for game two of the three game series. Newcomer Keegan Yuhl will get his first start for Battle Creek with first pitch coming at 7:05 ET.
