Sting Set Another Franchise Record with 93 Points on the Year

The Sarnia Sting took on the Guelph Storm in front of a packed Progressive Auto Sales Arena on Saturday night. The Storm, an opponent the Sting could in fact meet in the first round of the Playoffs.

The evening was kicked off with a salute to three players who will complete the final year of their junior hockey careers at the conclusion of this season. Connor Schlichting, Jordan Ernst and Sarnia's own Justin Fazio will have all spent the entirety of their OHL careers with the Sting.

The Sting would come out buzzing with several opportunities to open the scoring early in the contest. Hugo Leufvenius would ultimately find the go ahead marker at 9:12 in the first. The Storm would begin to mount pressure following the Leufvenius goal however the Justin Fazio would stand tall as he has done all season long.

Guelph would ride the momentum formed at the latter end of the first and control most of the play in the second. Nate Schnarr would jump on a loose rebound to even the score for the Storm at 16:59 of the 2nd. The visitors would put up a total of 20 shots in the second but could only find twine on one occasion.

Both teams would come out flying in the third exchanging chances in a back and forth affair. Adam Ruzicka would become the hero for the home side, patiently out waiting Popovich to give the Sting a 2-1 lead with 5 to play in the third.

The Storm would try with the extra attacker but to no success and the Sting would record their 43rd win on the season, breaking another franchise record with their 93rd point on the year.
