Guelph Storm News Release
It was a 3-0 loss for the Guelph Storm on Friday night.
Although, the 3-0 final in favour of the visiting Saginaw Spirit doesn't reflect the close match-up iced at the Sleeman Centre.
The Spirit, on a goal 10:07 into the contest from Marcus Crawford that took an odd bounce off Isaac Ratcliffe's stick, put the visiting squad up 1-0. The scoreboard stayed that way through to the final two minutes of play, when the Storm pulled goaltender Anthony Popovich for the extra attacker.
In the effort to tie things up, the Spirit got control, and made it 2-0 with an empty netter from Blade Jenkins with exactly two minutes remaining in regulation. 27 seconds after that, Mason Kohn made it 3-0 with the second empty netter of the game, sealing the loss for the Storm.
Evan Cormier, the Spirit's netminder, was recognized as the game's first star with a 32 save shutout, while Popovich received second star honours for a 25-save performance.
The Storm are right back in action on Saturday, visiting the Sarnia Sting for a 7:00pm puck drop.
