Guelph Storm News Release
It was another close game for the Guelph Storm on Saturday night.
Visiting the Sarnia Sting for the second of two games this weekend, the Storm trailed by one until tying things up in a dominating second period. From there, the score was locked up at ones with deserved credit to both netminders as the Sting's Justin Fazio turned aside 40 saves in the win (including 19 of 20 in the second period alone), and the Storm's Anthony Popovich making 30 of 32 stops on the night.
To open the scoring, the Sting's Hugo Leufvenius potted his 19th of the year at the 9:12 mark of the opening period.
Moving into the middle frame, the Storm came out firing and in control, recording 20 shots in the period compared to the Sting's seven. Rewarded for the effort, Nate Schnarr grabbed his 16th tally of the year, capitalizing on a rebound shot almost mid-jump.
The score remained tied until the final five minutes of the third when the Sting's Adam Ruzicka registered the game winner, taking advantage of an awkward rebound and a scramble in front to make it a 2-1 final.
The Storm now look ahead to Tuesday night, playing host to the Kitchener Rangers in Guelph's final home game of the 2017-18 regular season. To purchase tickets, order them online here, by calling (519) 837-9690, or in person at the Guelph Storm Box Office in Old Quebec Street Mall.
