Owen Sound, ON. - On Saturday night, the Saginaw Spirit (29-27-8-0) continued their road trip this weekend as they traveled to Owen Sound to face the Attack (34-22-3-5). This game is the second of three games in three days for the Spirit. Saturday's game marked the second and final meeting between the Spirit and Attack in the regular season. Saginaw Spirit overager Mason Kohn played his 300th game in the OHL against Owen Sound on Saturday. The Attack controlled the puck for the majority of the game and was able to capitalize on two goals in each of the first two periods. The fifth and final goal was scored with fifteen seconds remaining in the game. Unable to establish themselves on offense, the Spirit fell 5-0 against Owen Sound.
In first frame New Jersey Devils prospect Evan Cormier was tested early with a break away by Philadelphia Flyers prospect Maksim Sushko. Cormier held his own and denied countless scoring opportunities by the Attack in the first half of the period. On the penalty kill Vancouver Canucks prospect Brett McKenzie headed to face Cormier on a 2-on-1. McKenzie was able to beat Cormier and score a shorthanded goal giving the Attack a 1-0 lead at 11:34. A pass from Jacob Friend set up Sushko who was able to find a gap and make the score 2-0 to end the period.
For much of the second period the puck was controlled by the Attack and remained in he Spirit zone. After five minutes into the period. Blade Jenkins was able to take the puck and head into the Attack zone. A shot by Jenkins hit the crossbar and was unable to be rebounded. Vegas Golden Knights prospect Nick Suzuki was able to score his 100th career OHL goal low on Cormier's blocker side. At the end of his shift, Jonah Gadjovich chased the puck down in the Spirit zone and found himself behind the net. A touch pass to Ethan Szypula set up the Attack's second goal of the period and fourth of the night.
Cameron Lamour geared up to relieve Evan Cormier at the start of the third period. The Attack's speed and control of the puck kept their 4-0 lead throughout the period. A Saginaw power play quickly turned into a 4-on-3 penalty kill for the Spirit. The Spirit were able to deny a fifth goal for the Attack during the penalty kill and maintain a stable defense effort. With time winding down the Spirit sought to end the shutout, but was unable to get the puck out of their zone. With less than a minute to go, Alan Lyszczarczyk scores on a wrap-around to make the final score 5-0.
