Modesto Nuts News Release
Lancaster, CA. - Troy Stein crushed two home runs but it was not enough for the Modesto Nuts in an 8-7, walk-off loss to the Lancaster JetHawks on Monday night at The Hangar.
Stein put the Nuts (21-36) on the board first with a three-run homer in the second. It was his first home run of the year. The JetHawks (31-26) pulled to within one in the third before Stein drove in another run with a RBI single in the fifth.
The Nuts coughed up their lead in the seventh when the JetHawks plated five runs. Troy Neiman allowed a game-tying, three-run homer in the seventh to Ramon Laureano. Jason Martin and Jamie Ritchie smacked back-to-back, two-out RBI doubles to cap the five-run inning and take the lead for the first time.
In the eighth, the Nuts got a run back when Wilson Soriano smacked a RBI single off Ryan Thompson (W, 2-1). In the top of the ninth, Stein crushed his second homer of the game to tie it up.
In the bottom of the ninth, Yoely Bello (L, 1-1) beaned Bryan Muniz with one out. He moved to second on a single with two outs before Antonio Nunez drove in the game-winning run with a RBI single.
Yency Almonte started for the Nuts and found a way through 5.2 innings while walking a season-high six batters but allowing just two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
The Nuts will try to avoid the sweep on Tuesday night in the finale of the four-game series with the JetHawks starting at 6:35 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:30 p.m. Listen live online.
