
Sam Coonrod Named California League Player of the Month

San Jose, CA - San Jose Giants right-handed starting pitcher Sam Coonrod has been named California League Player of the Month for the month of May. Coonrod's spectacular starting pitching at the front of the rotation has guided the Giants into contention for the first half North Division title.
In five starts last month, Coonrod was a perfect 5-0 with a 0.57 ERA. Over 31.1 innings, Coonrod allowed just 19 hits and 2 runs while holding California League opponents to a .179 batting average. The right-hander did not allow a run in three of his five starts in May.
Coonrod was the San Francisco Giants 5th round draft pick in 2014 out of Southern Illinois University. Over 10 starts this season, Coonrod has fashioned a 5-3 record and a 2.26 ERA for the San Jose Giants. He is currently second in the California League in ERA and third in opposing batting average (.208).
Coonrod becomes the first San Jose Giant to be named Player of the Month in 2016.
The San Jose Giants conclude their season-long 10-day, 11-game homestand Tuesday night against the Bakersfield Blaze with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm. San Jose's next homestand begins on Monday, June 13 and will feature exciting promotions such as #SBStrong Night on June 14, George Brett Night on Saturday, June 18 and Father's Day on Sunday, June 19.
