Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - In a season in which he established a new CFL record for career TD receptions and was named one of the team's all-time best players, Winnipeg Blue Bombers receiver Milt Stegall has hauled in another distinction.

The Bombers' all-time leading receiver has been named the recipient of the Ed Kotowich Good Guy Award for the 2005 season. The award is presented annually to the Bomber player who best demonstrates football ability, team camaraderie and extraordinary effort in the community.

Stegall is in his 11th season with the Blue Bombers and in that time has established himself as a leader in the community. He has made hundreds of charitable appearances during his Bomber career and is one of the team captains.

The Turtle-Man originally joined the Bombers in September 1995 as a free agent. He leads the CFL in career TD receptions (128), and is the Bombers all-time leader in receptions (674), receiving yards (12,274) and most 1,000-yard seasons (8).

The Good Guy Award is named after the late Ed Kotowich, who was a valuable member of Winnipeg's offensive line from 1955 to 1961.

Kotowich and fellow O-lineman Cornel Piper were known as the pulling guards on the Bomber offensive line that paved the way for running backs like Leo Lewis. Kotowich played on three Grey Cup championship teams (1958, ‘59 and '61).

Kotowich was also active in the community. He served two terms as a city councilor, coached amateur football, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a strong supporter of the development of Boni-Vital Swimming Pool.
