BOISE, Idaho - In a game that gave new meaning to the phrase, "I went to a boxing match and a hockey game broke out," the West Coast Hockey League's first-place Idaho Steelheads set a new league record for home wins as they beat the Long Beach Ice Dogs 8-3. The win was Idaho's 30th at the Bank of America Centre this season and also tied the franchise points record at 102 set in 2001-02.

The crowd of 5,221 watched the Steelheads put the first point on the board at 1:31 of the game. Cory Morgan got a pass out to Jonathan Shockey who scored on Ice Dogs netminder Martin Parrot. Joe Rybar also assisted on the tally. On the power play, Long Beach tied it up when Mike Barrie deked out Rybar at center ice and got a slap shot past Idaho goaltender Jason Cugnet. Shockey scored his second of the period at 5:24 to give Idaho the one-goal lead again. However, it was short lived as the Ice Dogs answered back just a minute later. Jeff Attard was set up by Trent Clark in front of the net and beat out Cugnet with one low and in the corner. Long Beach then took a one-goal lead when Nathan Horne got one between the pipes at 7:31. The goal resulted in Cugnet being replaced in net by Blair Allison. Derrick Atkinson tied the game on a rebound from an Adam Copeland shot. The first period ended tied at 3 apiece.

Idaho scored five goals in the second period. Mylymok one-timed one past Parrot at 5:21. Oates scored his first of the year on a nice pass from Copeland out of the corner just 19 seconds later. Dampy Brar notched his 14th on the season at 6:20 with Suchanek and Copeland each recording a point. Suchanek then scored, stick side on Parrot from Rory McDade and Ben Keup. Rybar finished out the scoring for the game at 15:28 of the second period.

Of note: Eight Steelheads recorded multiple points in the game; Blair Allison was perfect in net as he stopped all 15 shots fired at him; the teams combined for 104 minutes in penalties.
