RiverBlades Complete Sweep of Ice Pilots

March 22, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Arkansas RiverBlades News Release

Mike Cirillo scored his 20th goal of the season to give the Arkansas RiverBlades a 3-2 victory over the Pensacola Ice Pilots Saturday at the Alltel Arena, completing the two-game weekend sweep.

Terry Marchant and Mark Scott also lit the lamp for Arkansas, and Scott Fankhouser stopped 21 to earn his 8th win in net for the RiverBlades.

Terry Marchant opened the scoring at 6:08 of the first, scoring his 21st goal on a breakway feed from Damon Whitten. Whitten gave the puck to Marchant, who then slipped the puck past goaltender Maxime Gingras for the 1-0 lead.

Then, just over two minutes later, Mark Scott got a rare breakaway chance, and deked on Gingras, then lifted the puck up over him on the backhand for the goal. Scott Fankhouser assisted on the play.

The Ice Pilots wasted little time denting the scoreboard in the second, as Taras Foremsky scored his 2nd goal in his 2nd game with Pensacola just 32 seconds into the frame. Greg Pankewicz and Marquis Mathieu assisted on the power-play goal.

Then, at 4:34, Chris Minard tied it with his 14th of the campaign, from Trevor Allman and Kevin Cloutier to make it 2-2 after two.

The RiverBlades number-one power-play finally broke through in the third period, as Mike Cirillo deflected a Dean Stork shot past Gingras for the game-winner at 7:18. Garry Toor also had a helper on the play.

For the game, Arkansas outshot Pensacola 30-23, and the Blades were 1-for-7 on the power-play. The Ice Pilots were 1-for-3.

The RiverBlades travel to Mississippi tomorrow, then return home to the Alltel Arena for two home games against the Columbus Cottonmouths on Tuesday and Wednesday. Faceoff will be at 7:05 on both nights.
