Brampton Steelheads News Release
Mississauga will visit a divisional rival in the Niagara IceDogs Tuesday, as the season series shifts to the Meridian Centre. These teams - currently sitting third and fourth in the Central Division - have met four times this season, all at the Hershey Centre.
The Steelheads won the first two meetings of the season, and Niagara the latter two. The IceDogs team has certainly been trending upward since making acquisitions such as Brandon Hope from Owen Sound and Josh Ho-Sang from Windsor.
That being said the IceDogs have lost three of their last six home games, but most notably beat the Oshawa Generals on December 12.
The Steelheads sit five points ahead of the IceDogs in the Central Division standings. A win Tuesday would push the Steelheads ahead of the Belleville Bulls for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Steelheads started their three-game road trip on the right foot, beating the Guelph Storm Friday night as the overtime winner came courtesy of Jimmy Lodge.
Lodge has been a bright spot for Mississauga this season, since he was acquired via trade with the Saginaw Spirit. In 17 games as a member of the Steelheads, the winger has racked up 21 points and is the team's leading scorer.
Jacob Brennan is another addition the Steelheads squad that is impressing early on. Claimed off of waivers from Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Wednesday, Brennan joined the team in time for their road tilt with Guelph. In his first OHL game, Brennan steered away 31 of 32 Storm shots in the victory.
The win on Friday marked the Steelheads' fifth road victory in their last six games away from the Hershey Centre. The Steelheads attempted to carry that momentum with them into the second of this three-game road trip, against the league-leading Oshawa Generals.
The Gens wasted no time in the game, scoring what would end up the game-winner just 19 seconds into the opening frame. The Steelheads were handily outshot 19 to Oshawa's 42, but again Brennan had a strong showing. Just two days after making 31 saves, he made 38 against Oshawa, keeping the Steelheads in the game on more than one occasion.
