Murphy Named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week
January 12, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
Defenceman Trevor Murphy has been named #PioneerEnergy Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ended Sunday, January 11th.
Murphy had multi-point games in each of the three stops on the annual Eastern Ontario road trip last week.
Murphy had a pair of assists in a 6-5 comeback win over the Bulls in Belleville on Wednesday, as the Spitfires extended their road win streak to five games.
Despite a disappointing 8-4 setback in Ottawa on Friday, Murphy was at it again, picking up three assists.
He finished the trip on a strong note, leading the club to another dramatic overtime win, this time in Kingston, with a pair of assists including one on Lucas Venuto's winner.
Murphy, 19, has been on a tear of late, recording multiple points in each of his last seven games.
He leads the team in scoring with 44 points (15G, 29A) while playing all 40 games and has two goals, nine assists and a +5 rating in five games, all on the road, so far this month.
"Trevor has been our best and most consistent player all year," Head Coach Bob Boughner told WindsorSpitfires.com. "He's done everything we've asked him to do, playing big minutes and running our power play, all while playing against top lines around the league."
Murphy, a Windsor native, was originally acquired back in November of 2012 from Peterborough, along with Zach Lorentz, in a deal that sent Derek Schoenmakers and Brandon Devlin to the Petes.
In 132 career regular season games with the Spits, Murphy has posted 30 goals and 67 assists.
Murphy says he's been having fun during the club's recent hot streak, during which the Spits took eight of a possible 10 points during a five-game, eight-day road swing.
"I've always wanted to be in this position. To have a big role. And it's happening," Murphy said. "It's one thing to have offensive abilities and to have success that way. But ever since the break, things have been going very well all-around. Pucks have been going in and the team has been winning. At the end of the day that's all that really matters."
Trevor will be recognized for his huge week prior to our game this Thursday night, as the Spits host the Sudbury Wolves.
