Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON)- The Peterborough Petes are excited to welcome Fleming College students Taylor McVeigh and Aaron McMillan to the Business Operations staff this January. Both students are fulfilling their post-secondary requirements by completing a four-month field placement with the Petes organization. Taylor and Aaron are enrolled in the Recreation and Leisure Services program at Fleming College in Peterborough, and have been Game Night Interns with the club since October 2014.
Taylor, a native of Bradford, Ontario, has a strong passion for hockey as she has played the game for 14 years. Now with the Petes she will be working on day to day projects and helping coordinate community events and overseeing game night operations. She believes being a part of the Petes staff will help her with her future endeavours.
"I wanted this placement one for my love for hockey, but mainly because I wanted to learn the operations side of the game," noted McVeigh. "I thought that it would be a good experience and a good way to make connections in the sports world as I can see myself working in a sport related field. I can also see myself in a municipality running and organizing programs."
Aaron, who originally resided in Mount Forest Ontario, joins the Petes for his Winter Placement in hopes of furthering his knowledge and experience working for a sports team. Aaron too will work on day to day projects and assist in creating Marketing material and collection of digital media. He believes this experience is unlike anything else available in this area.
"The great thing about this internship is, it wouldn't be possible without support from the Peterborough Petes and Fleming College," added Aaron. "This opportunity likely wouldn't have arisen had I gone somewhere else for school. Now because of the Petes, I am gaining a ton of experience working for an actual sports organization. Nothing is simulated; it is real work and hopefully will be very beneficial when starting out my career."
