Spitfires' Trevor Murphy Named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week
January 12, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release
Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that top scoring defenceman Trevor Murphy of the Windsor Spitfires is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 11 after recording seven assists in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.
Just the second defenceman to win the award this season, Murphy extended his personal streak to seven-straight multi-point games for the Spitfires who picked up four points with a pair of victories on their East Division road trip last week. On Wednesday night Murphy's two assists helped the Spitfires edge the Belleville Bulls 6-5 in overtime as the club erased a three-goal deficit. Murphy first assisted on Markus Soberg's game-tying goal shorthanded at 5:55 of the third period, then helped set-up Jamie Lewis' game-winner at 1:41 of the extra frame. On Friday night Murphy recorded three assists despite the Spitfires' 8-4 loss to the Ottawa 67's, then finished his week with two assists Saturday against the Kingston Frontenacs including another overtime helper setting up Lucas Venuto for the game-winner in the 3-2 victory.
Murphy, a 19-year-old from Windsor, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season. He joined his hometown team midway through the 2012-13 campaign after starting his career as a member of the Peterborough Petes in 2011. He currently leads all OHL defencemen in scoring with a career-high 44 points in 40 games including 15 goals and 29 assists.

Also considered for the award this week was 2015 NHL Draft prospect Travis Konecny of the Ottawa 67's who scored four goals and three assists for seven points in four games, and Barrie Colts' overager Joseph Blandisi who scored three goals and two assists for five points in two games. In goal, the Frontenacs' Lucas Peressini went 2-0-0-0 posting a goals-against-average of 1.92 and save percentage of .955.
