OHL Clubs Collect over 56,000 Teddy Bears

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League is pleased to announce that member clubs combined to collect over 56,000 teddy bears leading up to the winter break this season to benefit families and children in need throughout their local communities at Christmas.

Each season many OHL clubs host Teddy Bear Toss Nights which continue to be some of the most popular promotions on the OHL calendar. At these games fans are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear to toss on the ice when the home team scores their first goal of the game.

The Kitchener Rangers led the way this season with a team record 9,900 teddy bears collected on December 9 when captain Liam Maaskant scored a first period goal against the Erie Otters. The London Knights followed close behind, collecting a total of 9,077 teddy bears on December 7 on a goal by Christian Dvorak The Oshawa Generals also set a new franchise recordon November 28 when Michael Dal Colle scored against the Niagara IceDogs to send 6,072 bears to the ice.

Some of the charities across the league supported by the Teddy Bear Toss festivities include:

Barrie Fire Department Windsor Fire Department Salvation Army Toy Drive Boys and Girls Club Toy Drive United Way Children's Wish Foundation Children's Aid Society Canadian Tire Jumpstart Jayden Lamb Foundation
