Mississauga Steelheads News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Steelheads skated away with a convincing 3-1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday afternoon at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

The club was sporting specialty football-themed jerseys on Sunday afternoon as part of their inaugural Pinball Clemons Foundation Game. Micheal "Pinball" Clemons was in attendance to drop the puck, sign autographs and of course, provide a bit of motivation for the Steelheads.

The Pinball Clemons jerseys will be posted to our online auction site this week and all proceeds from the auction will be directed back to the Pinball Clemons Foundation.

Jake Ingham turned aside 19 of 20 shots faced to collect his 15th win of the season; just two shy of his career high 17 wins set in 2016-17. At the other end of the ice, the Steelheads fired 41 shots at Jake Mcgrath who managed to stop 38 in the loss.

The scoring chances started early on Sunday afternoon with both teams getting a powerplay opportunity before the game was 5 minutes old. Despite both teams getting their fair share of looks, the divisional rivals were deadlocked at 0's after 20:00.

Just 5:15 into the second period, former first round pick Blake Murray opened the scoring for the visitors with his 14th of the season. Murray stepped off the half wall and beat Ingham low-glove to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Michael Little responded for the Steelheads with his 8th goal of the season, assissted by Alan Lyszczarczyk and Ryan McLeod. Little's powerplay marker tied the game 1-1.

The Steelheads took their first lead of the game at 10:42 of the middle stanza when overage forward Alan Lyszczarczyk found himself in all alone on McGrath, deked to the back-hand and tucked home his 13th of the year and 9th since joining the Fish. Liam Ham was credited with the lone assist; giving him 8 points in 8 games as a member of the Steelheads.

Ryan Mcleod rounded out the scoring for the home-side; tipping home the insurance marker with just 0:36 remaining in the second period to make it 3-1. The Steelheads would shut the door in the third; allowing just 6 shots and skating away with 2 points in a very important divisional match-up.

When asked about his club's effort tonight, Head Coach James Richmond commented, "It resembled what were doing earlier in the year. Everybody buying in and everybody playing within the system that we want to play. When they play this way, its fun to watch."

The Steelheads are back in action on Friday, December 28th when they play host to the Oshawa Generals for the second time this month. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game with them on the 28th in support of Mayor Bonnie Crombie's annual Food Drive. Those who bring donate an item will receive a voucher for two complimentary tickets to the Steelheads game on January 6th as a thank you for their generosity.
