Spirit Play Final Game Before Holiday Break in Afternoon Tilt against Windsor

Windsor, Ontario - The Saginaw Spirit (18-11-1-2 39 pts.) travel across the border to take on the West Division rival Windsor Spitfires (14-16-2-1 31 pts.) Sunday, December 16. Puck drop for the fifth of eight meetings between the two teams at the is set for 2:05 p.m.

The Spirit come into the game riding a four-game win streak, including a 6-2 victory against the Spitfires on December 14. The Spirit shined in man-down situations in the victory, as Saginaw killed all five Windsor power plays.

In the past five games, the red-hot Saginaw Spirit power play has scored at a 61.5% clip, having scored eight of the past 13 man-power advantages.

New York Islanders prospect Bode Wilde has been a strong contributor and quarterback of the Saginaw power play. The 2018 second round pick of the New York Islanders has scored two goals and three assists on the man-power advantages during the five-game stretch. Wilde is fourth among OHL defenseman with 32 points in just 26 games played.

The Spirit power play will be challenged as the Spitfires come into the game with the second-best penalty kill in the OHL. Windsor has killed penalties at a solid 84.2% clip and allowed a meager 20 power play goals thus far through the season.

Saginaw first round pick Cole Perfetti has scored points in nine of the last 10 games, scoring six goals and eight assists in the stretch. The rookie forward's 15 goals are tied for the Spirit team lead. Perfetti is second among OHL rookies in goals and his 27 points are third in the OHL.

Jackson, Michigan native Blade Jenkins comes is riding a six-game point streak. The New York Islanders prospect has five goals and 13 points during the streak. Jenkins is second among Saginaw skaters with 33 points in 31 games.

Along with Jenkins, Czech forward Albert Michnac is also riding a hot streak heading into the game against Windsor. The overager has scored two goals and eight points on his current five-game point streak. Michnac started his first Spirit campaign with a 13-game point streak earlier this season.

Newly acquired Justin Murray has fit in well during his first few games in a Saginaw uniform. The former Barrie Colts captain has three points in three games with the Spirit. Murray, a London, Ontario native is 16th among OHL defenseman with 20 points.

The Spirit defense will need to keep a watchful eye on Dallas Stars prospect Curtis Douglas. The 2018 NHL fourth round pick leads the Spitfires with 14 goals this season. Douglas scored three-straight goals for a natural hat-trick in a game earlier this season against Saginaw.

Leading all Windsor players with 24 points is right-winger Cole Purboo. The 19-year old comes into the game second among Spitfire players with 13 goals.

The Spitfires have two players on their roster drafted by NHL clubs, forward Curtis Douglas (Dallas Stars) and defenseman Connor Corcoran (Las Vegas Golden Knights).

The Spirit boast six players with rights owned by NHL teams, forwards Brady Gilmour (Detroit Red Wings), Blade Jenkins (New York Islanders), Damien Giroux (Minnesota Wild), defensemen Bode Wilde (New York Islanders) and Reilly Webb (Detroit Red Wings), and goaltender Ivan Prosvetov (Arizona Coyotes).

The Saginaw Spirit return home Saturday, December 29, when they take on the Erie Otters for the third time this season. Saginaw took the first two meetings of the season in Erie. Former Detroit Red Wings Chris Osgood and Mickey Redmond will be signing autographs pregame. The Hockey Hall of Fame Trophy Presentation will be on hand for photos.
