Game Preview: Gens Finish Weekend at Home Tonight against Storm at 6:05pm
December 16, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release
The Oshawa Generals cap off their three-game weekend tonight against the Guelph Storm at the Tribute Communities Centre. After recording a massive 7-1 victory over the Bulldogs at home on Friday and falling to the IceDogs on the road yesterday, the Gens record sits at 20-11-2-0 on the season. Looking to finish off the weekend on a winning note, the Gens will aim to weather the Storm tonight at home.
Tonight's matchup marks the second time this season that Oshawa will tangle with the Storm. In the first meeting between the two clubs, the Gens came home with a big 4-3 victory on the road in late November. The contest saw a great outing from Allan McShane who potted the game-winning goal in the third period. Other stand out performances included Nando Eggenberger who buried a goal and added an assist, as well as Serron Noel who recorded a 2-point night. The Gens will look for the same result over Guelph tonight and defeat the Storm in front of the hometown crowd.
With one win and a loss in their first two games of the weekend, the Gens remain near the top of the eastern conference. With their record of 20-11-2-0 on the season, Oshawa's 42 points has them holding fourth place in the east behind Sudbury, Niagara, and Ottawa. Meanwhile, the Guelph Storm sit in a similar position in the West, currently claiming a tie for fourth place with the Saginaw Spirit who each hold 39 points. With Guelph coming to town with wins in their last two games, the Gens will look to put an end to their streak tonight and grab the two points.
After a huge offensive performance from Anthony Salinitri on Friday against the Hamilton Bulldogs, the forward is a player to watch for in tonight's contest. Salinitri's amazing game against the Bulldogs saw him score his first hattrick as an Oshawa General, leading the team's offence to a high-scoring 7-1 win at home. Since being traded to the Gens in late November, the forward has tallied 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points in 8 games. Adding his totals as a General to his time spent in Sarnia this season, Salinitri sits at 35 points in 33 games. Aiming to continue his point-per-game pace, look for Salinitri to continue producing and be an important contributor up front for the Gens tonight.
Tonight's game is the Oshawa Generals annual Food Drive! Bring your food or monetary donation to any gate at the game tonight to help Feed the Need in Durham provide for those in need this Holiday season.
Join us at the Tribute Communities Centre for the 6:05pm puck drop to cheer on the Gens as they take on the Guelph Storm! The team will enter their holiday break after tonight's tilt, with the next game coming on December 28th on the road against the Mississauga Steelheads and then back at home on the following Sunday against the Ottawa 67's.
