Steelheads Go Blue and Orange to Support Local Non-Profits

Idaho Steelheads News Release

(Boise, ID) - The ECHL's Idaho Steelheads are going blue and orange for two games this week to help raise money for St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute Pediatrics and St. Luke's Elks Children's Rehab.

The Steelheads will wear blue and orange jerseys with a Boise State theme when the team hosts the Ontario Reign Friday, January 6, and Saturday, January 7, at CenturyLink Arena in Boise.

The jerseys will be bid off via silent auction on the CenturyLink Arena concourse during the games with bids closing at the end of the second intermission Saturday night. Bids open at $200 and fans can purchase the jersey of their favorite player outright for $1,500. Fans who place the winning bids can pick up the game-worn jersey from the players on the ice immediately following Saturday's game. All of the money raised goes directly to the two non-profit organizations.

"We don't keep a single penny," Steelheads President Eric Trapp noted. "All the dollars that people bid go back to help people in need in our community."

This is the second time the Steelheads have worn special jerseys in recognition of the Boise State Bronco athletic department. When the team donned the blue and orange in 2008, the silent auction raised over $22,900, the second-highest amount ever raised by a Steelheads jersey auction.

It is one of two jersey auctions the organization will host this year. The second auction will represent the other half of the Gem State's big college rivalry as the Steelheads will display the black and gold of the University of Idaho in March.

The Steelheads, who are in their fifteenth season of professional hockey in Boise, held their first jersey auction during the 1997-98 season. In that time, the team has helped raise over $350,000 for local charities and non-profit organizations.

Group outings at a Steelheads game are a great way to gather friends, colleagues, or co-workers for a fun night out in downtown Boise. Ticket prices are discounted and you can get a Pepsi, Double-R Ranch Hot Dog, and bag of Tim's Cascade Chips with each ticket.
