Six straight wins move Everblades to cusp of South Division lead

January 3, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

The start of a five-game road trip last weekend did nothing to slow down the Florida Everblades as the team won three games in three nights against their three South Division rivals, increasing their winning streak to six games, and moving to within one point of first place in the South Division.

Florida opened its trek with a 3-1 win at Greenville on Thursday. Matt Beca, Trevor Bruess and Mathieu Roy tallied goals for the Everblades while Pat Nagle earned the win in goal with 30 saves.

Friday, the Everblades traveled to Gwinnett to take on the South Division leading Gladiators and skated away with another 3-1 victory. David Fischer tied game for Florida midway through the second period, the first goal Gwinnett goaltender Jeff Jakaitis allowed in over 215 minutes. The Everblades went ahead for good just 48 seconds after Fishcher's tally on a Scott Pitt goal, and Beca added an empty-net tally in the final minute.

The Everblades ended the week on Saturday with a 6-3 win at South Carolina. Six different players scored goals in the game for Florida, which raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening 37 minutes of the contest. Fischer led the way offensively with three assists and Nagle won his sixth straight start with 29 saves.

Nagle is 13-8-0 overall on the season with a 2.88 goals-against average and a save percentage of .906. His 13 wins are tied for fourth in the league, while he is third with 1,290 minutes played and is fifth with 597 saves.

Beca leads the Everblades in scoring with 28 points (10g-18a), which is tied for 17th overall in the league. Florida's offense features five players with at least two points, and two others with 19. Rylan Galiardi is tied for sixth among ECHL rookies with 23 points (9g-14a) and his five power-play goals are tied for first among first-year players. Fischer ranks third among ECHL defensemen with 25 points (4g-21a) and his 21 assists are tops among blueliners.

The Everblades conclude their road trip with a pair of games at Gwinnett on Friday and Saturday.
