Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals ended 2011 with a 20-11-0-0 record, bringing a six-game winning streak back to First Arena this Friday when they host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:35 p.m.

Elmira is coming off its second four-win week of the season and third since joining the ECHL in 2007, sweeping the Atlantic Division with two victories over Wheeling and a win each against Reading and Trenton as the Jackals took sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference.

On Monday, the Jackals returned home following a seven-game road trip and held off the Nailers in a shootout, 2-1. Elmira overcame a third-period deficit on Wednesday and defeated the Royals on the road in a shootout, 4-3. The Jackals fought back from a two-goal hole on Friday and beat the Nailers on home ice, 3-2. Elmira extended its winning streak on Saturday with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Titans in New Jersey.

Elmira plays its first home three-in-three weekend this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, welcoming South Carolina and Cincinnati to First Arena. To reserve your seats call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.

JACKALS EXTEND MULTITUDE OF STREAKS

With their victory on Saturday to end the month of December with an 11-2-0-0 record, the Jackals extended a plethora of streaks heading into the 2012 calendar year.

- Elmira has won six-straight games for the second time this season, matching its longest winning streak of 2011-2012. A victory on Friday over South Carolina would equal the club's longest winning streak within one season since joining the ECHL of seven games, accomplished once each in 2007-2008 and 2009-2010.

- The Jackals have won 12-straight games decided by one goal, having not lost a one-goal contest since Nov. 11. Elmira is tied for the league lead with 13 one-goal victories with the Utah Grizzlies and is 13-3-0-0 in one-goal games this season. All six games during this winning streak have been one-goal victories.

- Elmira is now 15-0-0-0 when allowing two goals or less.

- The Jackals have won eight-straight Saturday games and are 9-2-0-0 in Saturday contests this season. Elmira's last loss on a Saturday was on Oct. 29 against South Carolina.

- Elmira is 7-0 in shootouts and 3-0 in overtime for a combined 10-0 record after regulation this season. Last season, the Jackals were 0-7 in OT and 1-3 in shootouts for a combined 1-10 mark.

- The Jackals' last three wins have all come when the club entered the third period trailing by at least one goal. Elmira is 6-7-0-0 when trailing after two periods this season, with two more victories than the club had in that situation in the 2010-2011 campaign. The Jackals' six wins when down after two periods are the most in the ECHL.

- Of Elmira's 31 games, 26 have been decided by one or two goals, including eight in a row.

SHOOTOUT SPECIALISTS ADD TO AMAZING RUN

With three more shootout victories this past week, Elmira has now won eight-straight shootouts dating back to Mar. 16 of last season.

Center Mike Radja scored in all three shootouts this week and leads the league with six shootout goals on seven chances. Goaltender Nick Niedert was 5/5 in Monday's shootout against Wheeling, while netminder Brian Stewart is now a perfect 10-0 lifetime (7-0 in ECHL, 3-0 in AHL) in shootouts. The Burnaby, British Columbia native won two more shootouts this week. Stewart allowed his first-ever shootout goal in ECHL play on Saturday when Ray DiLauro scored in the fourth round on the 28th attempt-against in Stewart's career.

Jackals skaters are 15/27 this season in the shootout, scoring at a 55.6% clip, while the ECHL collectively is 110/408 (.270).
