Jakaitis Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Gwinnett Gladiators goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for December 26th through January 1st. It is the second time this season that he has earned the weekly award.

The Rochester, Minnesota, native posted a 2-1-0 record with two shutouts, a 0.67 goals against average and a .971 save percentage in three appearances last week.

Jakaitis helped the Gladiators remain in first place in the ECHL's South Division as he made 21 saves in a 4-0 win over South Carolina on December 26th. He followed that up with a 21 save performance in a 3-0 blanking of South Carolina on December 28th. He recorded 19 saves in a 3-1 loss against Florida on December 30th.

The pair of shutouts last week helped the netminder tie the Gladiators team record for most shutouts in a single season with four matching the mark set by Michael Garnett in the 2003-04 season. His three consecutive shutouts dating back to December 17th, tied an ECHL record for most consecutive shutouts for a goaltender. He fell 20:32 short of the ECHL record of for longest consecutive shutout sequence in league history.

Under contract to Rochester of the American Hockey League, Jakaitis is 45-34-14 with 11 shutouts, a 2.63 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage in 98 career ECHL games with Gwinnett, Charlotte and Columbia. He has also has appeared in 10 career AHL games with Portland and Worcester going 5-3-1 with a 3.27 goals-against average and a save percentage of .901.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
