Brampton Steelheads News Release
The Steelheads opened a big weekend with a resounding 8-5 victory over the Flint Firebirds on the backs of new faces Aidan Prueter and Nick Isaacson followed by multi-point efforts from Thomas Harley and Alan Lyszczarczyk. A group in need of a bounce-back from a northern trip that saw the team claim one of a possible six points. James Richmond's team responded with a great effort outscoring a Flint team that coming into tonight had been on their best 10-game stretch of the season.
The first period was a lively affair as each team tallied a pair of goals. The Steelheads opened the scoring on a heady play by Adam Varga who collected a Nick Isaacson rebound and banked it off Flint goaltender Emanuel Vella and into the cage. The assist was Isaacson's first as a Steelhead. Flint wasted no time in responding through Jack Wismer, who slotted one past Joe Ranger to even the score. The Steelheads took the lead once more through Aidan Prueter who finished off a crisp tic-tac-toe passing play assisted by linemates Alan Lyszczarczyk and Cole Carter. The period had one goal left in it for the Paramount Fine Foods Centre audience as Emmet Pierce pounced on a loose puck in the slot and went high blocker at the 7:23 mark of the first period.
The second period was no less lively than the first, another four-goal stanza saw the Steelheads go to their dressing room up 5-3. Nick McHugh was stopped on a breakaway early but the Steelheads would eventually find a way through. A marker by rookie James Hardie was sandwiched by two, first goals as Steelheads for Nick Isaacson and CJ Clarke. Isaacson capitalized on some physical play by Liam Ham on Ty Dellandrea in the corner and a feed to the front of the net by Keean Washkurak. The hometown kid squeaked one past the Flint netminder, putting the Trout up 3-2. The Firebirds equalized through a Jack Wismer goal, who went hard to the net and deposited a rebound created by Ethan Keppen. The Steelheads finished the period on a high. The Hardie goal was followed by a nice individual play by CJ Clarke who picked off a wayward pass by a Firebirds defenseman, walked into the slot and wired a shot over Emanuel Vella's right shoulder for his seventh of the season.
The final period of the game continued the trend as a five-goal stanza ended with the Steelheads as the victors by a final score of 8-5. The scoring in the third included goals for Cole Carters 27th, Richard Whittaker and a second of the game for James Hardie into the empty net. Vladislav Kolyachonok scored the lone goal for the Firebirds in the frame.
The first star of the game Aidan Prueter lead the way for the Steelheads in the point department with a goal and an assist on Cole Carter's 27th in the third period.
Head Coach/GM James Richmond said of first star Aidan Prueter "he's a highly skilled player, ... he's going to get the opportunity here and he's really bought into the way that I want him to play."
Joe Ranger backstopped the Steelheads in this one making 23 saves for his second win of the season.
Head Coach/GM James Richmond talked about the play of his goalie post-game "Joe will look back today and say maybe he could have had one or two of those, but he got the win and its another under his belt so he should grow from it."
The win moves the Steelheads to 19-19-4-1 going into a trip to Owen Sound on Saturday night. The Steelheads return back to Paramount Fine Foods Centre Sunday for their 7th annual Bell Let's Talk game against the Sarnia Sting.
