Big Crowd Sees Sting Stop Erie

Sarnia Sting News Release
The Sarnia Sting hosted the Erie Otters on Friday night.
It was a jam-packed crowd at Progressive Auto Sales Arena. With the annual Sarnia Silver Stick tournament going down this week, minor hockey players filled the rink. Inspired by their supporters, the Sting battled to a hard-fought victory.
Newly-signed rookie forward Nolan DeGurse made his Ontario Hockey League debut. A local Brights Grove native, DeGurse has spent this season excelling with the Junior B Sarnia Legionnaires. DeGurse was selected by the Sting in the thirteenth round of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.
In the first period, each side went back-and-forth for the majority of the period. It wasn't until late that the matching zeroes were broken.
Sting forward Calvin Martin opening the scoring with our league-leading fifteenth shorthanded goal of the season. This goal came large in part due to the efforts of penalty-killing aficionado Franco Sproviero. Sproviero out-hustled the Otters skaters before the puck landed on the stick of Martin. Martin's shot squeezed through Erie netminder Cole Ceci to give us a 1-0 lead.
Moving into the second frame, Sarnia defenceman Colton Kammerer was ready to party.
Kammerer only had one goal this season coming into tonight. But he was ready to change that and he did so in a big way. With the Sting on a mid-period powerplay, Kammerer pinched down low to the Otters crease. Jamieson Rees shoveled a pass through the blue paint, and it found the stick of Kammerer. The twine was now open, and Kammerer tallied his second goal of the season. We went up 2-0.
Erie defenceman Ryan Martin brought the Otters within one. Martin's well placed blueline shot found a way through Sting goalie Cameron Lamour. But fortunately for Sarnia supporters, Kammerer was still jiving.
Kammerer picked up his second of the night on what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Kammerer took a drop from Rees as they crossed the offensive blueline, and the Brooklin native wired another one past Ceci.
Otters forward Gera Poddubnyi broke an eleven-game scoring drought to bring the visitors back within one, but Lamour held the fort all the way to the final horn. Tonight's final score was 3-2.
Lamour made some stellar saves throughout the evening, turning aside twenty-six of twenty-eight shots faced.
We return to action tomorrow night for the first matchup of a quick two-game road swing! Puck drop in Peterborough against the Petes is set for 7:05 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
