Brampton Steelheads News Release

Kingston, ON - After a four-day rest, the Mississauga Steelheads visited the Kingston Frontenacs Friday night. Goaltender, Jack Flinn (.941 SV%, 1.68 GAA) made his sixth consecutive start for the Trout, while Lucas Peressini (.923 SV%, 2.49 GAA) made his fifth consecutive start for the Frontenacs.

The Frontenacs would take the lead early on as Ryan Cranford finished a pass from Ryan Verbeek at 1:18. From that point on it was all Steelheads as Mississauga controlled the pace of play, creating a number of good scoring chances. Michael McLeod was the player to watch as the Steelheads outworked the Fronts in an effort to get on the board. Despite two power play opportunities, the Trout were unable to get anything past Peressini as the Frontenacs held a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Shots on goal were 13-4 in favour of Misssissauga.

Kingston would have a chance to extend their lead early in the second, as Stephen Gibson and Austin Osmanski took back-to-back penalties for tripping and hooking respectively. The Steelheads successfully killed off the 5-on-3 to keep the game within one. Mississauga continued to outwork the Frontenacs in the second, and at 17:42 their hard work would finally pay off as Stefan LeBlanc solved Peressini to get the Steelheads on the board. Michael McLeod and Alex Nylander drew the assists on LeBlanc's first of the season. The game would stay locked at 1-1 heading into the second intermission. Shots on goal in the middle frame were 11-11.

It was a back and forth affair in the third as both teams battled for the go-ahead goal, but Peressini and Flinn stood strong between the pipes. The Frontenacs would have a chance late in the frame as Damian Bourne would head to the penalty box to serve two minutes for hooking. Kingston capitalized twelve seconds into the power play as Chad Duchesne netted his second of the season. With time ticking down, the Steelheads had one final opportunity to rush the net, but were unable to even the score as Duchesne's power play goal sealed a 2-1 win for the Frontenacs.

The Steelheads return home this Sunday, October 11th to host the Kitchener Rangers at 2:00 pm at the Hershey Centre.
