October 9, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell 7-2 to the Erie Otters in Erie on Friday night.
The first period would see the goaltenders keep things scoreless for much of the frame, until Erie would strike late in the period on the power play to make it a 1-0 game after one. Shots after the first were 14-6 Erie.
Unfortunately for the IceDogs, Erie would score three times in a span of less than five minutes in the middle of the second to open up a 4-0 lead. Brendan Perlini would answer back just over a minute after the fourth Erie goal however, putting home the IceDogs first of the night to make it a 4-1 game. Erie would add their second power play goal of the game prior to the end of the period to make it 5-1 after two. Shots after two were 24-16 Erie.
The IceDogs would look to battle back at the start of the third period, coming into the frame with 1:21 left in a 5-on-3 powerplay, but they would be unable to convert. Erie would then add another powerplay goal at the 5:49 mark, followed by another goal just over two minutes later to make it 7-1. Ben Jones would provide a bright spot for the IceDogs with just under a minute to go, scoring his first career OHL goal to make it a 7-2 final. Final shots favoured the IceDogs 33-30.
The IceDogs will now return to St. Catharines, where they will next return to action when they host the Hamilton Bulldogs for the first time this Thursday, October 15th at 7pm. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location.
